PERUMAL, Kolar Gold Field Introduction: It is a well established conclusion in the field of linguistics that Tamil and Kannada belong to the Dravidian Linguistic family. Both are cultivated and refined languages with high antiquity. From time immemorial Tamil is described as Nectar (Ambrosia) and Kannada as Fragrance (Kasthuri)-(Tamil Amizhthu. Kannada Kasthuri). Hence, it is quite clear that Tamil and Kannada have their own merits and excellence. A systematic and analytical study of Tamil and Kannada Proverbs with a comparative outlook will certainly throw an appreciable flood of new light on various aspects of culture of the Tamils and Kannadigas. Such a comparative study of scientific lines will certainly enable us to understand fully and perfectly the wital and basic similarities of the people of the two linguistic groups. An impartial and comparative study of the Tamil and Kannada Proverbs will certainly establish close and intimate affinity between the Tamilians and Kannadigas in the intellectual, literary, linguistic and culturalfi elds.
