கங்கைக் கரையில் காவிரித் தமிழ்
பெயராகத்தான் இருக்க வேண்டுமென அறிஞர்கள் ஆராய்ந்து எழுதியுள்ளார்கள். ஏன்? இளங்கோ என்ற பெயரும் அப்படித்தானே? ‘இளைய அரசு’ என்ற பொருளில் செங்குட்டுவன் தம்பியார் என்ற நிலையிலேதான் இப்பெயர் அமைகின்றதே அன்றி, அவரது இயற்பெயர் திட்டமாகத் தெரியவில்லையே! புகழேந்தியார் என்ற புலவரும் அதே நிலையில் வைத்து எண்ணப்பட வேண்டியவரோ என நினைக்க வேண்டியுள்ளது. அவர் பாடல் அவருக்குப் புகழை ஏந்தித் தர, அதைத் தாங்கித் தாமே புகழேந்தியார் ஆனார் என்று கூறல் மிகப் பொருத்தமாக இருக்கும். பெயர் ஆராய்ச்சி எப்படியாயினும்: அப்புலவர் புகழேந்தியார், வெண்பாவினை நன்கு பாடக் கூடியவர் என்று கொள்வதில் தவறொன்றுமில்லை. அவர் வெண்பாவின் திறத்தினை ‘வெண்பாவிற் புகழேந்தி’ என்ற செய்யுளின் தொடரே விளக்கிக் காட்டவில்லையா? ஆம்! அவர் இயற்பெயர் பற்றி நாம் கவலையுற வேண்டா. அவர் பாடல் நம் கருத்தை ஈர்க்கின்றது. அவரைப் பற்றி லாங்டன்[1]
