102 have him trampled upon by an elephant. The rutty - royal elephat was incited. The bold Saint imagined Ganapati in the elephant and sung the Padigam “Sunnnnavenn Santhanach Chaanthum” (&orator&ausor of fig, Goré &m figub). The royal tusker humbly saluted him with its trunk, came round him, and prostrated at his feet. The elephant then made an angry attack on the enemies who ran for their lives. The King was grievously worried. Finally, the Jains advised him to have Thirunavukkarasar tied to a stone and thrown into the sea. The King's orders were fully obeyed. Thirunavukkarasar fixed his mind on Lord Siva and sang the “Na-Ma-Si-Vaa-Ya’’ Padigam “Sotrrunnai Vēdhiyan" (Gærsøgy&or Gau ougèr). The stone floated and sailed like a boat taking him to the shore. The Saiva devotees at Thirupadirippuliyur (@GLlurr@fith Lysstuff) accorded him a joyous welcome. The trials were now over. The Saint then went into the temple and worshipped the Lord pleading his unstinted loyalty and devotion. The King who had persecuted Thirunavukkarasar, recalled the many miracles he had witnessed and was convinced of the superiority of Saivism. The King became a Saiva again, and made his contribution to the re-establishment of Saivism in Tamil Nadu. Thirunavukkarsar spent the rest of his life in the service of the Lord and the devotees. He went from temple to temple singing padigams in praise of Siva, and cleaning the holy environs with the hoe which he carried. At Pennadagam (GLongol & Lh) he sang the Padigam “Ponnaar Thiruvadi” (Glirror(off 5056,11+) and prayed to Lord Siva that his arms should be impressed with the figures of the sacred trident and the Nandi so that his body might become sanctified.
