In those days, that part of India was ruled by King Prabutadevan and he became Arunagiriyar's fond disciple. A Devi Bhaktha named Sambandandan lived in that country. Arunagiriyār argued with him regarding the truth of God and won him over. Arunagiriyar undertook pilgrimages to all sacred shrines in Tamil Nadu: Arunagiriyar had gained eight types of siddhies or attainments of spiritual skills. He is said to have laid his body in the temple gopuram at Thiruvannamalai and took the form of a parrot and flew away. Seeing his lifeless body, and not knowing that he had taken another form, the King got his body cremated. On return in the form of a parrot, Arunagiriyār, learnt of what had taken place and comforting himself he continued to remain in that form. He composed "Kanthar Anupoothi". He flew to Thiruthanikai-in the parrot form and in the month of Ani (Tamil month) and on Moola star. he sat at the feet of Lord Muruga and attained eternal life. Kandar Alankaram. Vel Viruththam, Mayil Viruththam, Seval Viruththam, Thiruvakuppu are other religious works composed by Arunagiriyar. He lived in the 15th century A.D. ா தாயுமானவர் "எல்லோரும் இன்புற்று இருக்க நினைப்பதுவே அல்லாமல் வேறு ஒன்று அறியேன் பராபரமே" என்பன போன்ற இனிய அறக்கருத்துக்களை எளிய தமிழில் அனைவரும் மனங்கொள்ளும் வகையில், கி.பி. பதினெட்டாம் நூற்றாண்டில் பாடியவர் தாயுமான அடிகளார் ஆவர்.' தமிழ்நாட்டில் தஞ்சைக் கடற்கரையிலுள்ள வேதாரண்யம் (திருமறைக்காடு) என்னும் ஊரைச் சேர்ந்த கேடிலியப்ப பிள்ளை, கெசவல்லி அம்மையார் என்னும் தம்பதியருக்கு இரண்டாம் மகவாகத் தாயுமானார் பிறந்தார் என்பர். கேடிலியப்பர் அக்காலத்தில் திருச்சிராப்பள்ளியில் ஆட்சி புரிந்த விசயரங்க சொக்கநாத நாயக்கரின் அரசியல் அலுவலராகப் பணியாற்றினார். திருச்சிராப்பள்ளியில், மலைக் கோட்டையில் கோயில் கொண்டுள்ள இறைவன் 153
