502 Two bards, Vasudevakavi and Rama Bharati wrote in simple, Tamil some sringara padas. During the reign of Sarabhoji I, Siva Rahasyam was written by Oppilamanippulavar and Mizhalai Satakann by Sarukkaraippulavar. Arunachalakkavirayar of Sirkali, the author of Ramanatakam, had also visited the court of Tulaja II. Kottaiyur Sivakkolunthu Desikar was one of the Tamil poets patronised by Serfoji II. He was the author of Koticcarakkovai, Tanjaipperuvudaiyar Ula and Sarabhendra Bhupala Kuravanji Natakam, one in each of the minor poems called Kovai, Ula and Kuravanji. Many medical treatises which go by the name Sarabhendra Vaidya Muraigal were written in Tamil poetry by such poets as Sivakkolundu Desikar, Velayutha Vattiyar, Tiruvengadatha Pillai, Venkatachalam Pillai and Subbarayakkavirayar. 33. Khanas and Mahals Mahals were big buildings and Khanas were parts thereof which served to hold the departmental offices. There were 18 Khanas and 12 Mahals in the fort. The Jamdhar Khana (where jewels & clothes were kept), the Hatti Khana or Peel Khana ( the elephant stable ), the Nagar Khana ( departmental store of musical instruments), the Jirat Khana ( the armoury or the arsenal ) the Ambar Khana ( where paddy was stored ), Abdar Khana ( water pandal), the Kavath Khana or Dalim Khana (where Military Drill was given ), the Jarga Khana ( where money transactions were made ), the Sarbath Khana (where Cool drinks were supplied ), the Tharu Khana where explosives were kept), the Sarab Khana (where intoxicated drinks were supplied ), the Dava Khana ( the hospital ), the Daphtar Khana ( the Record Room ), the Paras Khana (where pots were made ), the Dastha Khana ( where taxes were paid), and the Dustha Khana (where turbans were kept) were the 18 Khanas in the palace and its environs. The Pothe Mahal ( the treasury ), the Paka Mahal ( the stable of the horses), the Tarji Mahal (the tailoring house ), the Adai Mahal (where water was stored ), the Kotti Mahal (store house ), the Thatti Mahal (the cattle shed ), the Palki Mahal (where palanquins were kept ), the Mupadak Mahal (the kitchen), the Imarathi Mahal (from where repairs were effected), the Tanka Mahal (the Mint), , the Jasutha Mahal ( probably C. I. D. ), and the Dasthan Mahal (the granary) were the 12 Matals in the fort.
