Ali Adil Shah thought that it was wise to release Shahji. Adil Shah told him that he should leave Bangalore with his family for Satara, relinquish the fort of Simhagad, and subdue Parama of Chitragal. Accordingly Shahji vacated Bangalore, released the fort of Simhagad and marching against Parama, beheaded him and returned with all his "Birudas”. Adil Shah was immensely pleased and offering him all the “Birudas”, permitted him to go to Satara.

to suppress Aurangazeb and Ali Adil Shah. Swarna gave his assent. For this purpgse Shivaji selected Javli near Pratapgarh in the west coast as the basis of his operations. As there were many who owed allegiance to Adil Shah, he wanted to win them over to his side. His first aim was to capture Simhagad. Hence he inaugurated his campaign on a Vijaya Dasami day. He subdued Bhaji Raja, Krishna Raja, Janaka Raja and Chandra Raja and annexing their fort, named it Raigarh and proceeded to Javli. He conquered Pratapgarh and garrisoned these two forts. He then marched to the west coast and erecting a fort, named it "Shiva Lanka”, ascended the throne and introduced “Shiva Shaka”, a coronation era in his name.

Chandra Raja of Javli reported those incidents to Ali Adil Shah. The latter asked Afzal Khan, a noble of the first rank, to go with all his twelve nobles to capture and bring Shivaji. Vakil Krishnaji Pant also followed him. They were informed that Shivaji had come to Poona. Chandra Raja advised Afzal khan to proceed at once to Javli by the way of Pandarpur. While he was marching, Fateh Laskar, the chief war elephant died.

Now Shri Jagadamba, the deity worshipped by Shivaji, came in the dream of Shivaji and advised him to go to Javli. On his way to Javli Shivaji instructed his nobles to hide their armies in the woods and allow Afzal Khan to proceed unhindered. He further instructed them to massacre one and all on hearing the blast of a horn.

Afzal Khan, while marching, committed sacrilege upon Vittobha and the god vanished from the scene. Then the Khan proceeded to Tulajapur where the goddess was not to be found. Then he tried to desecrate the temple of Shambu Mahdev. The Mahrata nobles protested against his vicious act. So he desisted and marched to Pallivana where Gande Rao (deity) also vanished.

Then from his camp, the Khan sent his envoy Krishnaji Pant. The Pant asked Shivaji to give up Simhagarh, Bhima and Purandar and seek an interview with the Khan. Shivaji accepted the offer of an interview.
