Pratap came to know that Koyaji Gangte was yet alive and he was caught and put to death.

The end of Pratap was drawing near. He was always fretting and fuming. Further for three months before his death, the people heard every night a continuous moaning sound. A tower constructed by the Nayaks fell down all of a sudden.

Pratap Singh died in Saka 1685 (A.D. 1763). His wives Yamuna Bai and Sakwar Bai committed Sati.

Hyder invaded Arcot and Thanjavur, camped at Thirumalavadi, and after receiving a lakh of pagodas from Tulaja went away.

Tulaja's minister Hussain abstained from paying the peshkush through the English as was previously arranged. So Tulaja had to coopt more ministers.

Ramanathapuram began to give trouble. A ship carrying elephants to Thanjavur was held up at the Ramanathapuram shore and the elephants were confiscated. Hence Tulaja sent an army against Ramanathapuram and returned with a heavy sum as expenses of war.

Tulaja failed to pay the peshkush to Muhammad Ali. The Nawab also wanted to own the fort of Thanjavur. So he sent his son Umdat ul umara with a large army to attack Thanjavur. Tulaja entered into a treaty with the Nawab according to which he promised to pay about fifty lakhs of rupo gave precious jewels in lieu of money and pledged half of his principality for the unpaid amount. The invader then annexed the district of Elangadu and went to Tiruchirapalli.
