Sarabhoji on the throne. This Tulaja communicated to the English authoritised at Madras.

Some influential men in the Raj's court did not like this action of Tulaja. In order to safeguard their interest, they wanted Amar Singh to become king. One day they sent for Amar Singh, and declaring that it was the intention of the king, made Amar Singh sit on the lap of the king and associated him with the administration of the Raj and reported this fact to the English authorities at Madras under the royal seal.

The next day in Saka 1708 (A.D. 1786), Tulaja died, Amar Singh himself performed the obsequies in the presence of Sarabhoji.

Then the matter was communicated to Bengal through “Sirajval Camel, (Sir Archibald Campbell, the Governor). The Governor also came to Tanjavur and conducted an enquiry as to the validity of adoption. Twelve pandits gave the verdict and according to it Amar Singh became king in Saka 1709 (A.D. 1787).

Though Sarabhoji was in fact the adopted son of Tulaja,

reported against Amar Sing to the authorities at Madras. Mr. Ram came as the Resident to Thanjavur. He released Sarabhoji from the custody of Amar Singh and provided with sufficient money for his up keep and that of his family. Now Sarabhoji engaged himself in studies and learnt Eaglish Marathi and Tamil.

Sulakhana Bai was now dead and her obsequies were also performed. Sarbhoji and his family were removed to Madras. Steps were taken to press his claim to the throne. Sarobhoji gave authoritative scriptural evidence in support of his adoption. Enquiries were made in various places in India including Varanasi. The Pandits who gave evidence on the previous occasion were also subjected to enquiry. They revised their opinion.

By this time Schwartz was dead. Amar Singh was deposed and in Saka 1720 (A.D. 1798) Sarabhoji was restored to the throne.
