தஞ்சை மராட்டிய

Sai Bai had three daughters and one son. The son, Sambhaji was born in Saka 1596. The first daughter Sakwar Bai was married in Nimbalkar family; the second Ranu Bai in Jadaw family; and the third Ambika Bai to Harji Mahadik who was given a jaghir in Senji (Gingi) region.

Sakwar Bai had a daughter named Kamala Bai who was married to Netaji.

Saguna Bai's daughter was Rajkumara Bai who was married to Ganoji Rao Shirke.

Soyra Bai had a"son Rama Raja and a daughter Datu Bai.

The other wives had no children.

Shivaji's first son Sambhaji was crowned as the ruler of Poona in Saka 1602 (A. D. 1680) and his younger son was given Senji.

Later on Poona was occupied by the Moghuls and Raja Ram also had to leave Senji and take refuge at Thanjavur. Afterwards he returned to Shivaji and got Panhala.

Shivaji went on pilgrimage to Setu (Rameswaram) in secrecy and during his return, he inspected the fort of Thanjavur in disguise and wrote to Ekoji suggesting a few strategic changes in the fort. He also requested his brother to redeem and send his “ring with initials” which he had pledged with a shopkeeper in the fort of Thanjavur.

Shivaji then left this world.

S Es un While Sambhaji was ruling, Aurangazeb invited his 蠶 vassals to attend a function at Aurangabad. All those

who came bowed before Aurangazeb. But Sambhaji did

not. Aurangazeb felt slighted and imprisoned him. After a few months Sambhaji escaped. Aurangazeb sent a force to capture him. Sambhaji fought heroically but he was finally captured and brought before Aurangazeb. Even then Sambhaji would not bow to save his life. So Aurangazgeb had a small doorway constructed and ordered Sambhaji to be brought through that way. Even now Sambhaji thrusting his legs first in the doorway, came out on the other side. Aurangazeb, with full of admiration promised to release him if he turned a Mussalinan. Sambhji replied that he would become a Muslim if he would give his daughter in

marriage to him. Enraged at this, Aurangazeb executed Sambhaii. This happened in Saka 1617 (A.D. 1695).
