Some problems in teaching Tamil to Hindi Speakers S. RAJARAM Central Institute of Indian Languages 1.1. The scope of this paper is confined to the area where the Hindi speakers encounter some phonetic problems when they learn Tamil as a second language. In other words leaving apart the morphological and the sytactical problems of the learners this paper discusses the phonetic interferences noticed in the class room by the author. 2.1. We will now discuss some of the specific phonemic problems noticed when a Hindi speaker is taught Spoken Tamil (ST).
