some time in the first or second century B. C. It would then appear, that these Kosar were not natives of the soil. They were outsiders, who settled in large numbers in Młalabar ccast to the north of the arcert Cera kingdom.
It is rather difficult to Idcntify them with Kushans. It generally accepted by scholars, that there was a Mauryan invasion of South India and that before the reign of Asoka. In the light of this and for reasons to be shown in the squal we have to take it, that. În Third Century B. C. or evenbefore, these Kosar settled down, i acquired dipicmatic alliance, was sought by the three ancient Tamil kingdoms.
These events and the incidents narrated in the sangam literature in connection with the Kosar lend support to the fact, that by the Third Century B. C. they had become Tamilized and were quite at home in the Tamil country.
In the light of this fact we had to take it that the immigration of the Kosar must be fooked for in the fourth century B. C. or even earlier.
