INTRODUCTION.



1. The present volume is a fitting companion to Thirukural, the divine work of the great creative genius Thiruvalluvar who is universally revered as a saint throughout the world.

2. This book, the first of its kind in the field of Tamil Literature, is composed by the greatest scholar and Poet JAGAVIERAPANDIAN and every page of it, which is replete with the grace and splendour of word beauty enhanced by the ethical import of each couplet, is a clear proof of the author's deep penetration and critical powers of research in the religious literature of the land.

3. The abstract ethical import of each couplet of the Kural is illustrated by suitable anecdotes culled out from the Puranic and other Hindu literatures of the past and is written in the very same sweet rhythm as that of the Kural which is a striking evidence of the author's poetic composition which is as much inspired as the original itself. For the reason that each Kural is definitely backed and aptly illustrated by some Puranic anecdotes and other, the value of original work is enhanced hundred fold, its meaning of each couplet being made richer and fuller. Hence such a useful and interesting work as the present, which is a genuine and patriotic attempt on the part of the author to renovate the past will surely attract the attention of the Tamil world.
