Kamii Weith Zvelebii : Kavimani Tecikavinayakam Piliai (1876-26.9. 1954) was one of the first Tamil authors to write Poetry for Children. These verses belong to his best and he paved way for the most important poet in Tamil, Ala Valliappa. Ala Valliappa is well known as the children's poet (Kulantaik - Kavignar). His poems are not only for children, but also about children. Composed in a very simple sweet language and full of gentie pathos, teaching the good traditional values. . (A History of Indian Literature) Somaley : Wherever Tamil is spoken and wherever Tamil children ‘ive, Al. Valliappa's name is a household name. Valliappa's greatness sies in the fact that he has given his whole [ife-time to writing for children. And he continues to do so. He has founded and built up the children's writers' Association. He has stimulated writing for children by encouraging many of his own readers to write. Artur isenberg (Ford Foundation) : The greatest contribution of the Southern Languages Book Trust has undoubtedly been in the vital field of children's books. This, I have always believed and shall go on believing, was above all due to the fact that the Trust was fortunate to have the services of Mr. Al. Valliappa, an inspired, dedicated and competent writer and administrator. 232
