To the following English and Tamil Vocabulary, is Subjoined Collection of Familiar Dialogues, and the first Rudiments of Grammar; all of which being carefully selected from the best manuscripts extant, the Compiler trusts, that the Vocabulary will be found to comprehend an useful introduction to the Tamil Language, so essential to be acquired by Anglo-Indians.

This Work, was originally complied in 1807, at the recommendation of many of the Compiler's Friends, who saw the utility of such a publication. It has since undergone Four Editions, and the constant demand which it has ever met, induces the Compiler to offer to the Public Fifth Edition. The revisions, alterations and additions which have now been made, will.it is hoped, be found very useful.

The Compiler's aim has been to adapt the languages, as near as practicable, to the understanding of the weakest capacity and as it necessarily subjects him to grammatical inaccuracies, he begs to shield his humble efforts under the liberal indulgence of Generous Public.
