அட்டமா சித்திகளில் வல்லவரான அருணகிரிநாதர் தம் உடலைத் திருவண்ணாமலைக் கோபுரத்தே கிடத்தி, ஒரு கிளியின் உடலில் புகுந்து விண்ணுலகிற் பறந்து சென்றார். அவரது உயிரற்ற உடலைக் கண்ட மன்னன் அவர் கூடுவிட்டுக் கூடு பாய்ந்ததை அறியாது. அவரது உடலுக்கு எரியூட்டி ஈமக் கிரியைகளைச் செய்வித்தான். கிளியின் உருவில் திரும்பி வந்த அருணகிரிநாதர், நடந்ததை அறிந்து ஒருவாறு ஆறுதல் பெற்று. அவ்வுருவில் இருந்து கொண்டே"கந்தர் அநூ பூதி" யைப் பாடினார். அவ்வுருவிலேயே திருத்தணிகைக்கு பறந்து சென்று ஒர் ஆனி மாதம் மூல நட்சத்திரத்தில் முருகப்பெருமானின் திருவடியில் அமர்ந்து பெருவாழ்வு பெற்றார். கந்தர் அலங்காரம், வேல் விருத்தம், மயில் விருத்தம், சேவல் விருத்தம், திருவகுப்பு முதலிய பக்திப் பனுவல்களையும் அருணகிரிநாதர் இயற்றியுள்ளார். இவர் கி. பி. பதினைந்தாம் நூற்றாண்டில் வாழ்ந்தவர்.
