Decad: 13 Thiruppoovalli (Sacred flower of lily) Sub-title: Maayaa vishayam neekkuthal (Discarding matters of maaya (delusion) (Sung at Thillai) Thiru = sacred: Poo-flower; Alli-water lily In this decad the lady-love with her companions desires to pluck flowers of water-lily for adoring her Lord, singing His glory. It is made up of 20 verses of four lines each in Tharavu Kochchaka Kalippa metre. All the verses end with the words “let us pluch the flowers of lily and so the decad is called “Sacred flower of lily”. “As soon as He placed His twin sacred Feet on my head I renounced and abandoned the Whole lot of relatives Who were my succour. Singing the glory of the raft-like One Who dances in the hall of Thillai surrounded by water, let us pluck the flowers of lily”. (13:1) “Praising the abode of the blissful Honey of Idaimaruthu, the Lord of Paandi naadu Who severing my bonds of father, mother, kindred and all else made me His own, let us pluck the flowers of lily”.
