Decad:36 Thiruppaandi-p-pathikam The sacred decad of the Paandiyan Sub-title: Civaananda Vilaivu (The Growth of Bliss of Civan) (Sung at Thirupperunthurai) Thiru = sacred, Paandi = the Lord of Paandi land pathikam=decad: Civaanantham = Bliss of Civan; vilaivu = produce (here growth). This sacred decad of Paandi is made up of 10 verses of 4 lines each in Kattalai Kalithurai metre. The saint calls God as Paandianaar in verses 3,5,6 and 9 and in others. He also relates the grace bestowed upon the king, Paandian. Hence the title of this decad. “My mind wilănot recognise the form of any one else other than the Partner of the mountain Maid, the One who becomes rare Ambrosia to Paandian the King, the One who has nothing of name or form--the knight mounted on the charger, Who manifested Himself and melted me that I might worship His jewelled blossom feet.” (3.6:1) “We say emphatically that those who offer themselves to Him will forget their cleverness and become god-mad. If the Effulgence that veils the radiance of sun, holding in His hand the thorny spear, would come up on His charger and join us,you would see the ruin of our worldly life. Thus He would bar the progress of rebirth of the king of the people of Madurai (36:2) 7Ο7
