மென்மையானதொரு ஆடை என உரைக்கின்றது." இலக மஞ்சரியும் தேத்திராவைப் பற்றி சில எண்ணங்களைத் தரு இன்றது." இக்கருத்துகள் தேத்திரம் என்பது பட்டாடை வகை என்பதை உணர்த்துகின்றன. எனவே வடமொழிச்சொல் என் பதும் தெளிவு பெறுகின்றது.
36. நீவி
கம்பராமாயணம் ஆடையைக் குறிக்க வழங்குமொரு சொல் நீவி என்பதாகும் (கந்தர. 413). வேதகால மக்களின் உள்ளா டையும் 'நீவி' எனப் பெயர் பெற்றதே." எனவே இவ்விரண்டு சொற்களையும் தொடர்பு கொண்டு நோக்குவர் அறிஞர்,
‘தெவ்" என்ற தமிழ்ச் சொல்லில் இருந்து கிணைத்ததே 'நீS’ என்ற சொல் என்பதும் ஆடையின் அகன்ற கரையினைக் குறிப் பது இது என்பதும் இதனைப் பற்றிய கருத்துகள்,

63. The Tilakamanjari also refers to diferent kinds of stuffs. Netra was a kind of silk; a canopy made of spangled netra (Dhan(atetra) is mentioned. At a third place it is mentio = ned that the front border of the tunic made of netra slutte red revealing the navel and the end of her sari was firmly tucked bebind. - page. 117.

65. The Nivi has been explained by Sarkar as wider border of the cloth. He also gives the origin of the Nivi from the Tamil word 'Nev' to wesve,
