தமிழ் இலக்கிய வரலாறு
சுமேரிய மொழி சொல்வளம் உடையது. ஆயினும், தமிழை நோக்க அம்மொழி இளமையான பிற்பட்ட மொழியாகவே கருதப்படும் என்கிறார் அறிஞர் ஒருவர்.[1] 'வட இந்தியாவில் வாழ்ந்த மொகஞ்சதரோ மக்கள் திராவிட மொழியையே பேசினார்கள். அவர்கள் பேசிய சொற்களில் பலவற்றைத் தமிழில் காணலாம். ஆதலின், இப்பொழுது வழங்கும் எல்லா மொழிகளிலும் தமிழே மிகப்பழமையானது என்ற கொள்கையை இக்கூற்று மேலும் வலியுறுத்தி நிற்கின்றது"[2] என்று ஹீராஸ் பாதிரியார் குறிப்பிடுகின்றார். எனவே, எவ்வகையில் பார்த்தாலும், தமிழின் பழமையும் சிறப்பும் நன்கு புலனாகின்றன.
