bar அல்லது bhar என்னும் ஆரிய வேர்ச்சொல் பற்றி For instance. the root bar or bhar particularly if we minde the words derived from Latin ferre and adopted English such as, for instance, fertile, far (barley), farina, barley-flower, reference, deference, con- ference, difference, inference, preference, transference and all the rust, would more than a hundred English words. என்று மாக்கசு முல்லர் தன் மொழிநூல் பற்றிய முச் சொற்பொழி வுகள் (Three Leatures on the Science of Language) என்னும் பொத்த கத்தில் வரைந்திருப்பது கவனிக்கத்தக்கது.
ஒருசில மேலை மொழி நூலாராய்ச்சியாளர் 'பிரதர்' (brother) என்னும் ஆங்கில முறைப்பெயரையும் bar (bear) என்னும் மூலத்தி னின்று திரித்து, குடும்பத்தைத் தாங்குபவர் என்று பொருட் கரணியங் கூறுகின்றனர். அஃதுண்மையாயின், பொறுத்தார் என்னும் தமிழ்ச் சொற்கு அஃது இனமா யிருக்கும்.
இனி, கி.பி. 10ஆம் நூற்றாண்டினதான சீவகசிந்தாமணியின் "கருங்கடல் வளந்தரக் கரையும் பண்டியும் (சீவக. 62) என்று உய்த்தல் அல்லது ஏற்றிச்செல்லுதல் என்னும் பொருளில் ஆளப் பெற்றிருக்கும் கரைதல் என்னும் தூய தமிழ்ச்சொல், கேரி (carry) என்னும் ஆங்கிலச் சொல்லை ஒலியிலும் பொருளிலும் குறித்தி ருப்பது ஆழ்ந்து கவனிக்கத்தக்கதே. கரை என்பது பழங்கன்னடத்திலும் கர என்னும் வடிவிலுள்ளது. ஆங்கில அகரமுதலிகள் carry என்னும் சொல்லை வண்டியைக் குறிக்கும் 'கார்' (car) என்பதனொடு தொடர்பு படுத்துகின்றனர். ஆங்கிலர் வருகைக்கு ஆறு நூற்றாண்டிற்கு முற்பட்ட கரை என்னுஞ்சொல் ஆங்கிலத்தி னின்று வந்திருக்க முடியாது.

இங்ஙனம் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான அடிப்படை ஆரியச்சொற்கள் தமிழ்ச் சொற்களோடு ஒத்திருப்பதுடன் தமிழிலேயே வேர்களைக் கொண்டிருப்பதால் அவ் வொப்புமை தற்செயலாக நேர்த்திருக்க முடியாது. சிறப்புக் குறிப்பு :
