FOREWORD

Most of us live in the present and few of us care to know the ancient history of our own town or village. Very few even know the meaning of the name of the town where they reside. The Ancient History of Trichinopoly is an interesting book that should be welcomed by the citizens of Trichinopoly, because it! gives in a small compass the several vicissitudes through which the city had passed until it finally came into the hands of the British in 1801. The facts relating to the rise and fall of the many kingdoms that held away over Trichinopoly for a period either short or long are given in chronological order and in a language which is simple and clear, easily understandable by pupils of an elementary school.

The last chapter giving a skeleton of the present-day British administration will serve as a good introduction to a study of Civics, and the author' should be congratulated on having brought out such a booklet which, I am sure, will be found useful by both the young and the old.

முன்னுரை.

நம்மில் பலர் இக்காலத்தில் வஸிப்பினும் நம் ஸொந்த நகர் அல்லது கிராமத்தின் புராதன சரித்திரத்தை அறிய விருப்பமில்லாமல் இருக்கிறோம். நாம் குடியிருக்கும் பட்டணத்தின் பெயரின் அர்த்தம்கூட பலருக்குத் தெரியாது. திருச்சினாப்பள்ளி புராதன சரித்திரம் இந்நகர் வாஸிகள் ஆவலுடன் ஏற்கவேண்டிய புஸ்தகம். ஏனெனில், இப்பட்டணத்திற்கு ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் அதிர்ஷ்ட பேதங்களும் கடைசியாய் a. d. 1801-ல் ஆங்கிலர் வசம் அது சென்றதும் சுருக்கமாய எழுதப்பட்டிருக்கின்றன. ஸ்வல்பகாலமோ தீர்க்ககாலமோ திருச்சினாப்பள்ளியில் ஆண்ட அரச வம்சங்கள் பலவற்றின் சரித்திரம் காலாநுஸாரமாய்ச் சொல்லப் பட்டிருக்கிறது. புஸ்தக நடையும் எலிமெண்டரி பாட சாலை மாணவர் சுலபமாய் அறிந்துகொள்ளுமாறு அமைந்திருக்கிறது.

தற்கால அரசாக்ஷியைப்பற்றிச் சொல்லியிருக்கும் கடைசி அதிகாரம் ஸிவிக்ஸிற்கு நல்ல ஆரம்பமாகவும் ஆதாரமாகவும் ஏற்படவேண்டியது. சிறுவர் முதியோர் பலரும் உபயோகிக்கக் கூடிய இச்சிறு நாலை யெழுதிய கிரந்த கர்த்தாவை நாம் கட்டாயம் ஆசி கூறவேண்டும்.
